RE: Will a Honda 2000 run one of the new "efficient" A/Cs?

My reading on this site kind of indicated that running the A/C isn't the problem. But that running the A/C at less than what its trying to pull can cause damage to the unit.

RE: K&N air filters

Another question, why change to 5" exhust pipes? I really need to sit down and talk about owning this rig with a for real, good mech.
For friends truck it dropped his EGT's by 200-500 degrees depending on whether or not he was under load.

RE: Overfilling fresh water tank

The only thing I've ever noticed is that when I put the hose down in the fill, it can keep the water from running out and I heard some popping so keep an eye out because the hose was actually pressurizing the tank.

RE: K&N air filters

Yup, when installed properly they do work fine. But there is no known benefit to them, so what is the point?
How do you know? There are guys on here that say it helped their vehicle. You know for a fact that it didn't? You KNOW that they are useless for all vehicles? I noticed a gain in MPG immediately after putting one in my Tahoe. So I imagined that?
I'm saying they work, not the same amount for all vehicles and for some it may be negligible but to make a universal statement like you are is just proving ignorance.
And if you don't install it correctly it will let a lot of dirt in.
The only point I can get from this statement is that we should never change or check our filters as removing the stock one and putting a new "stock" one in incorrectly will let dirt in, that's not K&N Filter related.

RE: I'm apprenhensive to even broach this subject

I didn't get all the way through this but I'll say this. Look at what all is being done. It seemed like a lot of the stuff you mentioned that he sets up (rug, chairs, hammock) have nothing to do with what RV you have. also think about the ability to drive the truck into town and leave, etc.

RE: K&N air filters

Lets think about it....if it did all it claims to do, don't you think it would already be on your truck???
NO. Because they do not build motors to be optimized for performance. They build them to be most compliant with federal guidelines and efficiency and most of all cost effective. If they came out in optimum shape there wouldn't be companies like SuperChips, BullyDog, Edge, K&N, Mobil 1, etc. Because every vehicle would come with the best on it.
Look at the top end cars, Vipers/Vettes/GT's, and they often times come with things they aren't going to put on a mid-range car.

RE: Dodge CTD 6.7 liter mpg

If on the hills you get better mileage. At least how I think. YOu burn some more going up but get a lot better going down.
And the Average MPG police on here are bad. If you burned XX gallons and drove XXX miles then you averaged XX.X mpg. There's no real need to average over a bunch of tanks unless your claiming "my truck averages XX mpg" . For that tank you did really well. Sweet, I have a buddy with one of those 6.7s and I can't wait to see how they turn out, they've got big shoes to fill.

RE: tire pressure question

(snip)
Some will tell you to max out the pressure when towing which is wrong as well as that would be when the tire is loaded to max capacity (per the sidewall). Most tires will never see that.
I haul per max axle loads and only max sidewall psi will work which is the correct pressure.
By the way those tire pressure charts are for "minimum" pressure for that weight which leaves no fudge factor for those road hazard events/max speed driving or days when the temps go tripple digit/etc.
Door placards for tire pressure and tire pressure charts make a good starting place but learn to read your tires for long term reliability and long mileage. Your tires will be happier.
Jim
I said that most will never see it. If you do that's fine. But for instance I have tires on my Tahoe that are rated for about 3200# a piece. The 'Hoe weighs about 5600#. Some people instantly say to air all the way up to Max when towing. In my case, I could put my TT on top of my Tahoe and not be at max load.
I just pointed that out as some people just say air up to 65 or 80psi when towing and that can cause handling problems. I keep my Tahoe at about 50-55 not towing, 65 when towing. Max pressure is 80.

RE: HELP! How to un-hitch my Jayco?

I don't have an equalizer but on my TT when I hitch up I have to line it up so that the ball is slightly forward of the coupler. So when it drops the TT slides forward and drops. This keeps the ball as forward as possible in the coupler and lets me lock it down. If I just line it up dead on I'll fight it for days.
Long/Short this also helps unhook unless I force the camper backwards as a last maneuver. So sometimes I give a little trailer brake and pull forward.

RE: K&N air filters

On a normally aspirated vehicle it may be an advantage. My Tahoe got a noticable gain in MPG with a K&N. But when you have a turbo cramming air into the motor, the filter doesn't really matter.
Your limitations are probably going to be the intake itself and the exhaust. A buddy I know just had his turbo get louder with a new air-box replacement, but what really helped was a 5" exhaust.

My uncles is red, doubt it's ever been changed in 4 or 5 years. I tried to reset mine with a new filter and can't get it to reset. Any pointers?

RE: 2008 jetta diesel fuel mpg !!

My wife's gets about 40 with mixed driving, 45+ all highway. Some diesels go together better than others and you'll find a few guys getting 60+ mpg out of the early 2000s VWs. Check out Fred's TDI club for more info.

RE: Towing Problem

Don't go max on your pressure, you only do that if the tires are at max load. But it does sound like you need to bump up the pressure.
Also, adjust the pressure according to the sidewalls and NOT to the door jamb specs in your truck.

I'm with the what have you done so far people. Have you contacted the dealer or the manufacturer yet? Unless you have an they said tough luck I don't see why the dealer is at fault. Manufacturer should also be given a chance to correct it.

RE: tire pressure question

How does the door sticker know what tires are on the truck once the owner drives it out of the showroom?
This is a great question. I have E rated tires on my Tahoe and if I ran them at the pressure on the door jam it would be less than 50% of their max pressure. CRAZY.
the guy who said weigh things and look it up on a chart is right. Some will tell you to max out the pressure when towing which is wrong as well as that would be when the tire is loaded to max capacity (per the sidewall). Most tires will never see that.

RE: Who tows in Overdrive?

I was just curious, mousefart can rant all he wants but I see nothing to thank him for. My manual says to feel it out I guess. But in my limited towing with the Tahoe it has to down shift on even a slight hill if it's more than 100 ft. or so long when driving in 3rd. So my gut tells me that it's really even smart to tow at all. The manual seems to be a crock.
To the Dodge guy, I have learned the Never tow in OD thing from Dodge people. The OD is the weakest part of a Dodge Tranny and is just not able to handle much power, let alone the 5.9L Gas torque.
